The Problem with Being Consistent
Think about a guy like Kyle Snyder. Ohio State Coach, Tom Ryan, says he goes "level 10" every single day. In other words, when he is at practice he is always training at the highest level possible. He doesn't have days where he trains at a level 9 or a level 8. He goes all out all the time and his consistency has clearly paid off.
So, if going "level 10" every day is a great way to get better, why the heck can't anyone seem to do it? The first reason is, it's hard to do... really hard. The second reason, which is tied to the first, is it doesn't work!
At least not right away...
The problem with being consistent is, it takes a really long time to make a big difference. Just like investing money, you have to be consistently consistent over a long period of time. You can't be consistent for a day, a week, or even a year. If you talk to the average millionaire they will not say, "Yeah. Invested for about a year and now I have a million dollars." That would be crazy! More than likely they will say that they have invested like a mad man for 20 to 30 years or more to get where they are.
It's no wonder so few people have the endurance to do it!
In wrestling, it is the same way. You have to consistently invest your time and energy into your craft, for years in most cases, to get where you want to go. When we see someone standing on top of the podium it is easy to forget all of the blood, sweat, and time they have invested into getting to where they are. But anyone who has been there knows it didn't happen overnight. They were the one there running stairs after practices and shadow wrestling in their bedroom at night... for 10 years straight. We don't get to see all that.
A lot of people in our society seem to want a microwave solution to a crock-pot problem. They want results in their life, but they don't want to put in the time or effort it takes to get there. In order to become successful in life, you have to choose to go "level 10" Every. Single. Day. That is real consistency. And it doesn't give you fast results. But it will give you results. I guarantee it.
