In Us We Trust

We live in a society where many people have tried to rid themselves of God. The problem is, you cannot just "get rid" of God. You can try to replace him with false idols, which many have done, but God will not go away. His standards will remain no matter what popular opinion says. Despite this fact, many believe we no longer need God's standards. We can forge our own path. We can figure things out on our own. We have put ourselves in God's place, essentially raising ourselves up as our own gods. And this is where it gets ugly...

When we have become our own gods the question is no longer "what is the right thing to do?" The question becomes "what is the popular thing to do?" or "What is it that we feel should be done?"

When God is in his rightful place there is always a standard that goes beyond what we think or feel. When God gets replaced by our feelings or our individual fancies the only standard we have is ourselves and what we feel.

Jeremiah 17:9 says "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" yet, we have put the desires of our hearts above all things. We have taken the most deceitful thing we have and put in the highest place of power.

This is a recipe for failure. And it is nothing new.

We are not the first society in history to try to replace God. Nearly every nation in history has, at some point, tried to replace God with false idols... and it has never worked and it never will work. Without God, everything falls apart. We are no different from the animals, just another species trying to survive.

We need God's standards to guide us. We are not smart enough to figure things out on our own. Our pride may tell us otherwise, but our pride is wrong! It doesn't matter what your feelings tell you, God's ways are higher than your ways and His thoughts are higher than your thoughts. What we believe, think, or feel has no bearing on reality, and the reality is, what God says it is.

God's standards are the foundation of every just law that has ever been made. If we completely remove God, anything goes.
